So, what is that unique thing, act or confession?
Consider just for limited examples, these men mentioned in our text. What was unique about Gideon? A man in hiding, eking out a living, while crying and sighing over the distress of his people, caught the attention of the God he only knew by secondhand information. Powerless to change his situation or that of his people, yet with staggering walk he came to believe the word of this God, and following step by step His instructions, until victory was won (Judges 6-8).
What about Barak? A general whose name meant ‘lightning’ had no doubt alongside other Israeli generals fought Jabin and Sisera several times and each time had been defeated. No wonder when Deborah gave him God’s proposition he balked, but he took refuge in the word of God spoken by God’s messenger and Israel was delivered (Judges 4 & 5).
What about Samson? What shall we say about this man who in the days of his youth failed to give attention to understanding and honoring the sanctity and purpose of the Nazarite anointing upon him? Driven by strong carnal passions he defiled himself (by eating honey out of a carcass, going through a vine field and the embrace of a deadly Palestinian woman) and stripped himself of cover, losing the eye-gate he never brought under control, and yet in one unique moment, in one act returned to find God’s patience, love and faithfulness waiting to embrace him and finish the appointed work of delivering his people! One unique moment, one act of return wiped his slate clean.
Beloved, there will be days, seasons or moments of OFFENCE, when our limited understanding cannot comprehend our circumstances or travails and we will strive with the word of God, such moments are the hallmark moments of faith, when we MUST believe without understanding or seeing!
Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. John 20:29. Selah.
