Do you have the full spectrum of relationship with Him? Listen to the Psalmist expressing this in part in our text for today.
Listen, Yahweh, to my passionate prayer! Can’t you hear my groaning? Don’t you hear how I’m crying out to you? My King and my God, consider my every word, for I am calling out to you. At each and every sunrise you will hear my voice as I prepare my sacrifice of prayer to you. Every morning I lay out the pieces of my life on the altar and wait for your fire to fall upon my heart. I know that you, God, are never pleased with lawlessness, and evil ones will never be invited into your house. Boasters collapse, unable to survive your scrutiny, for your hatred of evildoers is clear. Psalm 5:1-5 (TPT)
Let’s take the first two dimensions expressed in vs. 2b. Is He King of your life? A king is sovereign and his word cannot be challenged. The Psalmist’s prayer shows:
- The right approach to the Sovereign, it is supplicating, it is an appeal to One who is superior; and embedded in the right approach is
- The persistent dependence upon Him as the answer to the issues of life.
The song writer put it so beautifully. Let the king of my heart be the mountain where I run, the fountain I drink from…the shadow where I hide…the ransom for my life…oh He’s my song. Let the king of my heart be the wind inside my sails, the anchor in the waves…be the fire inside my veins, the echo of my days…oh He’s my song
Our approach must be as of privilege, and at a set acceptable time—that shows confidence that our pleas are heard by Him and that to Him alone we bow the knee and no other. We approach recognising the privilege of grace that has position us in purity of heart and cleanness of hands. Let faith look up where you are and in assurance that you are not trapped by what is here below! Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, and as the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the Lord our God, until He has mercy and loving-kindness for us (Psalm 123:2 (AMPC).
And as God, consider Psalm 46:1-10 (TPT) and behold how this flows with Kingship.
God, you’re such a safe and powerful place to find refuge! You’re a proven help in time of trouble—more than enough and always available whenever I need you. So we will never fear even if every structure of support were to crumble away. We will not fear even when the earth quakes and shakes, moving mountains and casting them into the sea. For the raging roar of stormy winds and crashing waves cannot erode our faith in you. Pause in his presence.
God has a constantly flowing river whose sparkling streams bring joy and delight to his people. His river flows right through the city of God Most High, into his holy dwelling places. God is in the midst of his city, secure and never shaken. At daybreak his help will be seen with the appearing of the dawn. When the nations are in uproar with their tottering kingdoms, God simply raises his voice, and the earth begins to disintegrate before him. Here he comes! The Commander! The mighty Lord of Angel Armies is on our side! The God of Jacob fights for us! Pause in his presence.
Everyone look! Come and see the breathtaking wonders of our God. For he brings both ruin and revival. He’s the one who makes conflicts end throughout the earth, breaking and burning every weapon of war. Surrender your anxiety. Be still and realize that I am God. I am God above all the nations, and I am exalted throughout the whole earth. Psalm 46:1-10 (TPT)
Isaiah 2:11, 12, 17, 19-21 (AMPC) speaks to His might and wrath against the proud.
The proud looks of man shall be brought low, and the haughtiness of men shall be humbled; and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day. For there shall be a day of the Lord of hosts against all who are proud and haughty and against all who are lifted up–and they shall be brought low… Then the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be brought low; and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day…Then shall [the stricken, deprived of all in which they had trusted] go into the caves of the rocks and into the holes of the earth from before the terror and dread of the Lord and from before the glory of His majesty, when He arises to shake mightily and terribly the earth.
And in the third dimension, as Father Psalm 103:13 and Malachi 3:17 speak.
As a father loves and pities his children, so the Lord loves and pities those who fear Him [with reverence, worship, and awe]. Psalm 103:13 (AMPC)
And they shall be Mine, says the Lord of hosts, in that day when I publicly recognize and openly declare them to be My jewels (My special possession, My peculiar treasure). And I will spare them, as a man spares his own son who serves him. Malachi 3:17 (AMPC)
Have you experienced Him in the fullness of the relationship spectrum He offers? He is waiting for you. Now is the time to approach. Shalom.
