Words Of Comfort (Part 3)

It is fit that we close this week’s exhortations with the gems hidden in these verses of Solomon’s words. Since the handling of the issues of this present life border on choices we make on one hand and the matter of wealth on the other, we will be wiser for it to heed the instructions.

Become intimate with him in whatever you do, and he will lead you wherever you go. Don’t think for a moment that you know it all, for wisdom comes when you adore him with undivided devotion and avoid everything that’s wrong. Then you will find the healing refreshment your body and spirit long for.Proverbs 3:6-8 (TPT)

In every decision we take, ultimate certainty that it is the right decision as a matter of practicality rests on your intimacy with God. Beyond thinking of verse 7 as referring to pride, the truth really is that we don’t know beyond what the Spirit reveals or leads us into – 1 Corinthians 2:9-12 (TPT).

With undivided devotion to Him, He will guide us so we don’t end up doing evil; and we can live worry free, the healing refreshment that the body needs. (Do you know the song ‘you have longed for sweet peace and for faith to increase and have earnestly, fervently prayed?)

Glorify God with all your wealth, honoring him with your firstfruits, with every increase that comes to you. Then every dimension of your life will overflow with blessings from an uncontainable source of inner joy!Proverbs 3:9-10 (TPT)

The rich struggle to preserve, multiply wealth that he has; but the scripture says I am the Lord that giveth thee power to get wealth, isn’t it sensible too that the one who gives power to get wealth will also show how to preserve it and multiply it! The secret to preservation and multiplication of wealth is what these two verses address. God neither eats nor keeps your wealth, no; but make Him your priority in the exercise of wealth and every dimension of your life will be filled with His blessing flowing from an inner source of joy.

My child, when the Lord God speaks to you, never take his words lightly, and never be upset when he corrects you. For the Father’s discipline comes only from his passionate love and pleasure for you. Even when it seems like his correction is harsh, it’s still better than any father on earth gives to his childProverbs 3:11-12 (TPT)

As if knowing we will not always get it right, our heavenly Father corrects us with stone walls as He did using Balaam’s donkey (Numbers 22:31-39) to counter the greed and covetousness that drives our lives and decisions. Psalms 32:8-9 (TPT) speaks! What a promise, what a grace.

I hear the Lord saying, “I will stay close to you,
instructing and guiding you along the pathway for your life.
I will advise you along the way
and lead you forth with my eyes as your guide.
So don’t make it difficult; don’t be stubborn
when I take you where you’ve not been before.
Don’t make me tug you and pull you along.
    Just come with me!”
Psalm 32:8-9 TPT

Are those stone walls pleasant? Not necessarily, but early believers experienced the same (Hebrews 12:5-9 (TPT). Don’t shrink back from God because of these stone walls of correction (Hebrews 10:30-34 (TPT) and as you look ahead into the coming year, be mindful of the lessons of these last three days. They will benefit your life. Shalom.
