The reality of day to day living as it presents itself is dire. I was in a meeting with two gentlemen of another faith a few days ago. As we bantered over God’s mercies upon a land as ours full of distress, bloodshed and insecurity, one of them stated and I quote, ‘Not in the history of my going to the mosque has praying for relief from widespread hunger been such a permanent feature’; and he went on to expletives against the rulers of the nation! Wherever you go the story is the same, but as distressing as the reports are, they are not a reflection of the nature of my heavenly Father from His avowed love and care for us; even though these appear to be so distant currently. Look at our text –
Though the fig tree does not blossom and there is no fruit on the vines, [though] the product of the olive fails and the fields yield no food, though the flock is cut off from the fold and there are no cattle in the stalls, Yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will exult in the [victorious] God of my salvation! The Lord God is my Strength, my personal bravery, and my invincible army; He makes my feet like hinds’ feet and will make me to walk [not to stand still in terror, but to walk] and make [spiritual] progress upon my high places [of trouble, suffering, or responsibility]! Habakkuk 3:17-19 AMPC
Just as Habakkuk, you and I have a choice, where we want our hearts to dwell upon.
A right response to disappointment begins with resisting the natural tendency toward bitterness. We can ask God’s help on how to respond to the circumstance or the personality behind our situation and be willing to follow His directions. It’s not easing up as we expect for the challenging situation is worldwide. Selah
