What Time Is It? (Part 3): Keep Your Garment On

by Pastor Afolabi Oladele

Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame. Revelation 16:15

The Lord Jesus here commands watching and keeping your garments on! Think about this statement for a moment. Suggested here is the possibility of relaxing and while being off-guard we take off our garment! In another place, Revelation 3:11 hear Him again: “Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.”

This salvation to be revealed at the last time – 1 Peter 1:5 – demands that I watch and be fully clothed in the garments of righteousness, waiting in the night hour when He is going to appear. The warning cannot be more explicit than Paul expounded on it in 1 Thessalonians 5:3-8:

While they are saying, “Peace and safety!” then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape. But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day would overtake you like a thief; for you are all sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of darkness; so then let us not sleep as others do, but let us be alert and sober. For those who sleep do their sleeping at night, and those who get drunk get drunk at night. But since we are of the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation. For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.

To put it in regular parlance, be ready for war in the time of peace! Are you?

Selah.
