There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: There is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches. Proverbs 13:7
He that is despised, and hath a servant, is better than he that honoureth himself, and lacketh bread. Proverbs 12:9
He that honours himself yet has no bread is like one who makes himself rich yet hat nothing, a life of self-deceit, hypocrisy and playing to the gallery and the world’s standards of measure. But a man’s life does not consist of the abundance of things possessed. Why pretend to be what you are not? Yet to make oneself poor while having great riches speaks to something rare, particularly if it is motivated by humility, the fear of God and purpose (2 Cor. 8:9).
For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich. 2 Corinthians 8:9
The greatest riches in a man’s life is divine purpose or mandate fulfilled (2 Tim. 4:6-8)
For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:6-8
Who are you? What is your measure of yourself? These are important questions to answer in this world of craze for wealth. Selah.
