The (little) apocalypse of Isaiah, specifically Isaiah 24-27 details in as much similarity as we find in the books of Daniel and Revelation, the cosmic and universal judgment of the nations in the latter days. When the narrative is expanded from Isaiah 20, it contains historical, but equally prophetic judgments of specific nations or powers as we find in the book of Daniel.
Revelation speaks about the truth that is shown to us and where that truth is committed to be repeated by a spokesman to warn a people of approaching danger, the spokesman is generally referred to as a watchman. The watchman is typically separated in a watchtower. Such is as described in Isaiah 21.
The watchman in these end times is one assigned the specific list of duties in prayer and warfare, having the functions for the body of believers in Christ of:
- protection, defense, observation, warning, revelation of impending danger on one hand and
- offense and execution of judgment upon principalities and powers to establish God’s kingdom authority on the other hand.
Isaiah 56:10-12; Ezekiel 3:16-31; Ezekiel 33 and Habakkuk 1&2 provide the bible context to this definition and is intended to bring clarity of purpose and responsibility to those so-called. Such clarity helps the watchman not only in delivery of his message but more his own response to the seeming equity or otherwise of the message he is asked to deliver (A highly recommended reading is Aeron Sullivan’s article titled Nahum’s Oracle and Habakkuk’s Grievance. It is too long to quote here).
This nudging is of the needed correction to the watchman’s confession when his assigned message brings trials and sufferings upon him. Jeremiah 20:7-18 speaks, just as we see in the case of Habakkuk.
The Lord our Commander is just and all-knowing. Let there be no rebellion as the burden intensifies. Take to heart Dunsin Oyekan’s songs Holy and Who Is On The Lord’s Side.
Holy by Dunsin Oyekan
I can see the glory of the Lord
All over and everywhere
I can see angels all around
Ascending and descending
I can see worship going to the throne
And Jesus glorified
So we cry Holy, Holy
Is the Lord of Host
Holy, Holy – Dunsin OyekanWho Is On The Lord’s Side by Dunsin Oyekan
I ask you, “Who is on the Lord’s side?”
I am on the Lord’s side
Are you on the Lord’s side?
I am on the Lord’s side
As we raise our voice to praise
The enemies will bow
Selah
