Our scripture text, though written to the Hebrew believers, holds the same instructions to all who are sons of God, the redeemed of the Lord.
Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. Hebrews 2:1
What things have they heard, that demands such firm admonition? We should go back to Hebrews 1, which assertively speaks to the personality, the person, the position and the power of the Christ who is:
- the manifestation and expression of the eternal God (Hebrews 1:3)
- better than the angels, for to none of the angels did God at any time say, sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool? The angels are all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation,
- the begotten brought forth into the world, and whom all angels must worship;
and whose
- “throne is the throne of righteousness”, and because He loved righteousness and hated iniquity, is exalted above all his fellows in the pantheon of heavenly beings (Psalm 82), and
- throne is an everlasting throne, heir of all things, by whom also God made the worlds and who upholds all things by the word of his power having by himself purged our sins!
The Lord our Christ so introduced to us, is the truth that sons of God must have their hearts and minds centred upon, and not the world and the pervasive social injustice!
He is the perfect judge to whom our supplications, anguish and frustrations with the injustice perpetrated must go without ceasing, just as did the widow spoken of in Luke 18:1-8. This is the only way to break out of the travail given to the sons of men. Selah
