In that popular conversation between the Lord and Peter, recorded in Matthew 16:15-18 when He asked the disciples who they said He was. The response of the Lord to Peter’s confession in verse 18 was a deep statement we fail to grasp. Until Christ was revealed to them, then and only then would they also be shown who they were too! In our recognition of who the Lord is are we also given to know who we are. Paul went on to capture that in his speech to the Athenian philosophers in Acts 17:26-28.
’And He made from one [common origin, one source, one blood] all nations of men to settle on the face of the earth, having definitely determined [their] allotted periods of time and the fixed boundaries of their habitation (their settlements, lands, and abodes), So that they should seek God, in the hope that they might feel after Him and find Him, although He is not far from each one of us. For in Him we live and move and have our being; as even some of your [own] poets have said, For we are also His offspring. Acts 17:26-28 (AMPC)
Dunsin Oyekan in the song To Know You so captured it in the lyric, ‘when I know You, I find me’. Until you know Him, you cannot find yourself, who you really are. Can you make this your life pursuit? Consider the following scriptures:
For with You is the fountain of life; in Your light do we see light. Psalm 36:9 (AMPC)
Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me; or else believe Me for the sake of the [very] works themselves. [If you cannot trust Me, at least let these works that I do in My Father’s name convince you…At that time [when that day comes] you will know [for yourselves] that I am in My Father, and you [are] in Me, and I [am] in you. John 14:11, 20 (AMPC)
That they all may be one, [just] as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be one in Us, so that the world may believe and be convinced that You have sent Me. I have given to them the glory and honor which You have given Me, that they may be one [even] as We are one: I in them and You in Me, in order that they may become one and perfectly united, that the world may know and [definitely] recognize that You sent Me and that You have loved them [even] as You have loved Me. John 17:21-23 (AMPC)
They lay the foundation to the quest set before each of us as believers, to understand and pursue the life union the Lord declared in these quoted scriptures. Paul delved deeply into the pursuit of the life union in several of his teachings, 2 Corinthians 5:13-21, Galatians 2:20, Galatians 6:14 and Colossians 3:3. To get the flavour of these scriptures I quote Galatians 2:20 (TPT) and plead with you to study them in totality so you can fully commit to this priority of the believer’s life—
My old identity has been co-crucified with Christ and no longer lives. And now the essence of this new life is no longer mine, for the Anointed One lives his life through me—we live in union as one! My new life is empowered by the faith of the Son of God who loves me so much that he gave himself for me, dispensing his life into mine!” Galatians 2:20 (TPT)
Will you seek this life union that the Lord put on the table before us? Selah.
