I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world. John 16:33 NLT
Horne in his commentary on Psalm 112:4, 6-8 (NLT/TLB) states that “While we are on earth, we are subject to a threefold ‘darkness’;
- the darkness of error,
- the darkness of sorrow, and
- the darkness of death.”
Let’s take the darkness of error, a condition of being wrong in conduct arising from wandering or deviating from the truth; or judgment by which men assent to or believe what is not true. Error may be voluntary or involuntary. In the former, men neglect or pervert proper means to be informed; while the latter judging correctly is not in their power.
In these times we need to be awake and aware, not slumbering and not sleeping (1 Thessalonians 5:6); we need to ensure that we interpret the events we see and hear in the news in terms of God’s word – the standard, the benchmark, the touchstone by which all our deeds must be measured. Yes, the word of God, not the social media posts where ‘truth is measured to each audience’s set of beliefs or taste.’ As Apostle Peter spoke to the massive crowd in Acts 2:40, so I say to you. “Save yourselves from this crooked generation!” Acts 2:40
What characterized that generation? They preferred their own sets of truth, different from the revealed WORD of God. If you fail to make that difference you will drown in the darkness of error and will miss the light that Psalms 112: 4, 6-8 assures. Selah.
