Behold My servant, Whom I uphold, My elect in Whom My soul delights! I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice and right and reveal truth to the nations. He will not cry or shout aloud or cause His voice to be heard in the street. A bruised reed He will not break, and a dimly burning wick He will not quench; He will bring forth justice in truth. He will not fail or become weak or be crushed and discouraged till He has established justice in the earth; and the islands and coastal regions shall wait hopefully for Him and expect His direction and law. Isaiah 42:1-4 (AMPC)
“I alone am the Good Shepherd, and I know those whose hearts are mine, for they recognize me and know me, just as my Father knows my heart and I know my Father’s heart. I am ready to give my life for the sheep. “And I have other sheep that I will gather which are not of this Jewish flock. And I, their shepherd, must lead them too, and they will follow me and listen to my voice. And I will join them all into one flock with one shepherd. “The Father has an intense love for me because I freely give my own life—to raise it up again. I surrender my own life, and no one has the power to take my life from me. I have the authority to lay it down and the power to take it back again. This is the destiny my Father has set before me. John 10:14-18 (TPT)
These verses reveal a notably rare humility—a deliberate decision He took (Phil. 2:5-9; Heb. 2:9). He made that choice to be, long before we found Him in the fashion/form of a servant. He did it for the specific purpose of being the sacrifice, the propitiation for my sin!
Humility is a decision, just as love is and is only love when the reason is redemptive. It takes this God-kind humility to love in the manner the Lord loved us, laying down His life to bring us who were disenfranchised for our disobedience into the fold!
In a world ruled by pride and self-exultation I must take the path of my Lord, the angel of my redemption. Lord, let me be like You. Shalom.
