Sons of Encouragement (Part 1)—1 Chronicles 17:1-2

What does it take to be a person of encouragement? How we need this today wherever we are placed as children of God.

We take our first example from our text of today:

As David sat in his house, he said to Nathan the prophet, Behold, I dwell in a house of cedars, but the ark of the covenant of the Lord remains under tent curtains. Then Nathan said to David, Do all that is in your heart, for God is with you. 1 Chronicles 17:1-2 (AMPC)

Two things are of note:

  1. David’s desire to please the Lord was the overriding factor in the statement that he made.
  2. The company that he kept even in his affluence and the grandeur of his throne was with the prophet of God, the mouth piece of God, complementing his rulership.

And that was the atmosphere in which what was in his heart was spoken. Where the heart is in the right place and environment, you’ve set a foundation to be either a son of encouragement or a destroyer. A son of encouragement such as Nathan will be there to urge you on in your desire to please God.

Where and with who do you keep company?

Selah.
