Let’s make clear the difference between God’s economy and man’s economy because every believer must understand the principles of God’s economy and live under it, and those who will not will by default live under the principles of the economy of this world.
There are principles that govern God’s economy, set out clearly in:
i. Genesis 2:4-15. The mandate set out in Genesis 1:28 to Genesis 2:15 can be summarised into two:
- That the family is God’s vehicle for propagating His image and likeness, a truth attested to in Malachi 2:14-15 (TLB) and Revelation 22:17; and
- That the management of the garden of Eden and indeed the earth before the fall was a TRUST that was granted to man (Genesis 2:15)
A simple reality drawing from the presence of gold amongst many other precious minerals mentioned in Genesis 2:11-12, and the fact that man has been mining gold since and still finding more reserves of it to mine today attests to the fact that there is NO, repeat No shortage in God’s economy. Even more amazing, is that every special metal that man needs is discovered on this same earth at the point of need! Isn’t there a lesson to be learnt here for every believer that He will meet your need at the point when the need arises! (Matthew 6:27-34, 7:7-8).
ii. Matthew 13:8,23 also attests to this truth, that there is no shortage in God’s economy otherwise where does such multiplied yield as described for the seed that fell on the good soil come from?
iii. Romans 14:17 speaks to the three pillars of construction that those who operate under God’s kingdom economy must conform in their pursuit of the use of the talents God entrusted to each man. Just as everyman and every woman got a piece of the promised land, the use of the talent entrusted must deliver end results of:
- Righteousness
- Peace, and
- Joy in the Holy Ghost
Anything short of this ends in disaster just as Israel was warned would happen to them in Deuteronomy 8:7-20 (TLB).
For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land of brooks, pools, gushing springs, valleys, and hills; it is a land of wheat and barley, of grapevines, fig trees, pomegranates, olives, and honey; it is a land where food is plentiful, and nothing is lacking; it is a land where iron is as common as stone, and copper is abundant in the hills. When you have eaten your fill, bless the Lord your God for the good land he has given you. But that is the time to be careful! Beware that in your plenty you don’t forget the Lord your God and begin to disobey him. For when you have become full and prosperous and have built fine homes to live in, and when your flocks and herds have become very large, and your silver and gold have multiplied, that is the time to watch out that you don’t become proud and forget the Lord your God who brought you out of your slavery in the land of Egypt. Beware that you don’t forget the God who led you through the great and terrible wilderness with the dangerous snakes and scorpions, where it was so hot and dry. He gave you water from the rock! He fed you with manna in the wilderness (it was a kind of bread unknown before) so that you would become humble and so that your trust in him would grow, and he could do you good. He did it so that you would never feel that it was your own power and might that made you wealthy. Always remember that it is the Lord your God who gives you power to become rich, and he does it to fulfill his promise to your ancestors. But if you forget about the Lord your God and worship other gods instead, and follow evil ways, you shall certainly perish, just as the Lord has caused other nations in the past to perish. That will be your fate, too, if you don’t obey the Lord your God. Deuteronomy 8:7-20 TLB
This is worth your deep reflection. Selah.
