Coming Up Empty! Leadership Failure (Part 2)—John 21:5-22

The concluding verses of our text clearly demonstrate that our Heavenly Father is focused on His purpose not on our frailties. He always leads us forward, never backwards. The following show the heart of our Father towards His chosen vessels. Notwithstanding the gravity of their act He:

  1. Still called them children
  2. Cared for their wellbeing, the main reason they abandoned waiting, asking them, have you any food?
  3. Still led them back, using the point of their first call to remind them (the role of the Holy Spirit (John 16:13).

How undiscerning we could be when He steps in to bring us back! In verse 9 providing fish and bread alluded to the miracles of feeding 5,000 and 4,000 to assure them of His power to provide even in the wilderness! He broke fast with them, removed their doubts renewing fellowship, and empowered them to change the world.

Dearly beloved, this is not the time to work outside the control and guidance of the Holy Spirit; it is like fishing on the wrong side of the boat. You will wear yourself out ending up with little to show for your efforts. Are you failing? Are you fishing on the wrong side of the boat, will you resubmit yourself to the Lord and His Spirit? Please renew your intimacy with Him and let Him lead, with you hearing His voice because you are His sheep and you hear His voice. Shalom.
