Continuing from the last posting, see the number of times the word ‘sanctified’ was used in John 17:15-19. We note:
- Sanctified speaks to being set apart ‘for the exclusive use of’. Furthermore, what sanctifies is ‘the word, the truth’ of Yahweh Himself! Every true believer is set apart, made holy by the word of God that you read, assimilate, imbibe and live by;
- Sanctified in the context used, is a reciprocal setting apart, initiated first by the Lord followed by the righteous response of the believer or disciple to be the Lord’s alone in all areas of life.
In the calling of Jeremiah, we see this principle completed in the addition of ‘ordained’
Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. Jeremiah 1:5
Ordained speaks to being ‘ordered according to a plan’. God spoke to Jeremiah the plan in the subsequent verses of our Jeremiah 1 text, just as He did to the Lord Jesus as revealed in Isaiah 52:14-15 and Isaiah 53:10 and as the Lord spoke subsequently to Peter in John 21:18-19 and Paul in Acts 26:17-18. Why should it be different for you if He is no respecter of persons? The point is that if you haven’t heard Him, ask Him and listen for Him in His presence. This is not time to walk haphazardly, for there is time no longer. Shalom.
