Fellowshipping with some saints over the long weekend, we looked at our scripture text for today, which was addressed to believers in Ephesus. Believers asleep, what could he have meant? And what could lead to that state of being asleep? See the rendition of verse 14:
Wake up from your sleep, Climb out of your coffins; Christ will show you the light Ephesians 5:14 (MSG)
“Arise, you sleeper! Rise up from your coffin and the Anointed One will shine his light into you!” Ephesians 5:14 (TPT)
Pretty serious matter, to be asleep likened to, not just being in coffins, but in individually unique coffins. This was a reference to a group of believers who were totally oblivious of the events going on around them, events that shut them out of understanding the will of the Lord for their lives.
A brother came up with the most powerful illustration, one that I had never seen. Brother A called out in the presence of all that were seated, another brother, B, and told B in another language, a language B did not understand, to dip his hand into his pocket and whatever he took out of A’s pocket belonged to him. B heard him well but did nothing because he didn’t understand what he was told. So, B was told to go back to his seat. Once he sat down those of us who understood the instruction just shook our heads at the missed opportunity. When B was eventually told what was said to him, he was in shock for the amount of money he would have got out of Brother A’s pocket.
Beloved, are you aware of the will of God for the times we are living in? 1 Corinthians 2:14-15 (TPT)—Someone living on an entirely human level rejects the revelations of God’s Spirit, for they make no sense to him. He can’t understand the revelations of the Spirit because they are only discovered by the illumination of the Spirit. Those who live in the Spirit are able to carefully evaluate all things, and they are subject to the scrutiny of no one but God.
Your regenerated spirit is the part of you that can connect with God and respond to Him; and if it’s asleep or dead there is trouble. It is time to climb out of your coffin so you can receive the light He regularly gives to His people. Set time apart to be in His presence daily for the days we live in call for this. Remember Jeremiah 29:13,14, a promise that holds for you irrespective of the unique circumstances that may have held you captive. Selah
