Interesting times we are, when there is enough to preoccupy our thoughts. There is no time in the history of mankind, at least since the Fall that things have gone well; but the believer is not left without help. Listen to the Psalmist taking a cue from God’s instruction to Joshua at the time of leadership transition:
How love I thy law! It is my meditation all the day…I have more understanding than all my teachers: For thy testimonies are my meditation. Psalm 119:97, 99
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. Joshua 1:8
Constantly thinking upon His word puts us under assured guidance and superior insights, wisdom that is superior to that of the wise of this world; and such wisdom is available to those who are mature enough to know where to obtain it!
But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 1 Corinthians 1:24,25
Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought. 1 Corinthians 2:6
Thinking and meditating without ceasing on the WORD brings you into the mind of God; then you become possessed of the full meaning of the ‘God-kind’ of success. The degree to which we succeed is directly connected to how much time we spend meditating on His word.
In Pathways to Power, Merrill F Unger writes, “the holy exercise of pondering over the WORD, chewing it as an animal chews its cud to discover its sweetness and nutritive value takes time! which ill fits out modern age. Today most Christian devotions are too hurried, their lives too rushed to sit at His feet.” Think again of the Psalmist’s words:
I lie awake thinking of you, meditating on you through the night. Because you are my helper, I sing for joy in the shadow of your wings. I cling to you; your strong right hand holds me securely. Psalm 63:6-8 (NLT)
When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches. Because You have been my help, therefore in the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice. My soul follows close behind You; Your right hand upholds me. Psalm 63:6-8 (NKJV)
Beloved, your survival, your strength and success depend on your intimacy with the WORD.
Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof…Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. Psalm 46:3,10
Think on His supremacy over all the issues of the times irrespective of where you are located. Shalom.
