What Is Your Weapon of Warfare? (Part 1)—1 Samuel 17:38-39

David’s response to the logic of a king who should have been the model of confidence in the God of the armies of Israel in our text was, “I have not proved them”! David had not used Saul’s armour, he had neither tested them nor was familiar with them. They were strange!

In the warfare facing every believer today, what is your tested weapon of war? 2 Corinthians 10:4-6 AMP says that:

The weapons of our warfare are not physical [weapons of flesh and blood]. Our weapons are divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. We are destroying sophisticated arguments and every exalted and proud thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought and purpose captive to the obedience of Christ, being ready to punish every act of disobedience, when your own obedience [as a church] is complete.

And the ultimate weapon of spiritual/physical warfare against our mortal enemy is Revelation 12:11 AMP

And they overcame and conquered him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, for they did not love their life and renounce their faith even when faced with death

The stones in David’s pouch bag—the word of God, the instrument of warfare hidden in your heart/belly (stones in the lunch bag) was sufficient and remains so if Psalm 119:11; Jeremiah 51:20-24 are grafted in every believer’s heart.

In the ensuing verse 43 the Philistine spoke words of vanity, of false powerless gods but David was neither intimidated nor silent. In verse 45 David spoke of who sent him, whose honour he stood for, and trusted to give him victory. The victory of the sling and the stone—the word that never misses (Isaiah 55:11)

What do you battle with, untested human logic or the spoken word that you have proved? The latter is the assured place of success (Joshua 1:8), but do you know it? Have you proved it? Those promises are trustworthy and confirmed in Christ (2 Corinthians 1:20). Selah
