What Is The Reality of The Gospel? (Part 2)

The second reality of the gospel of Christ by which we must live is knowing what the nature of your relationship is with the world and do not be deceived by its glamorous pretence of friendship! Consider the following scriptures, direct utterance of the Lord, the Christ Himself:

for you get enough hate from the world! But then, it hated me before it hated you. The world would love you if you belonged to it; but you don’t—for I chose you to come out of the world, and so it hates you. John 15:18-19 (TLB)

Now I am leaving the world, and leaving them behind, and coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your own care—all those you have given me—so that they will be united just as we are, with none missing… I have given them your commands. And the world hates them because they don’t fit in with it, just as I don’t. I’m not asking you to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from Satan’s power. They are not part of this world any more than I am. Make them pure and holy through teaching them your words of truthJohn 17:11, 14-16 (TLB)

Yes, I came from the Father into the world and will leave the world and return to the Father…I have told you all this so that you will have peace of heart and mind. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows; but cheer up, for I have overcome the world. John 16: 28, 33 (TLB)

The world is not your friend, its pretences notwithstanding. How long will it take you to separate yourself from its propositions, tastes and conduct? John Wesley wrote this concerning the world while commenting on I John 5:19 – “In this short expression, the horrible state of the world is painted in the most lively colours, as well as is demonstrated in the actions, conversations, contracts, quarrels, and friendships of worldly men. Their actions are opposed to the law of God. Their conversations shallow and false. Their contracts forced, interested and deceitful. Their quarrels puerile, ridiculous and ferocious, and their friendships hollow, insincere, capricious and fickle—all the effect of lying in the arms of the wicked one; for thus they become instinct with his (Satan’s) own spirits.”

The Lord made no mistake in alerting us to the struggle with world-likeness, a reality that most believers ignore. As Apostle John wrote in 1 John 4:4-5 (KJV), a clear test every believer should subject himself to –

Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.

Children of God are required to overcome the world as Jesus did. If all our conversation, manner of speaking and living is always according to the dictates of the world, then we are of the world and do not belong to Christ neither are we living according to the reality of the gospel. Look in the mirror of these words and adjust your ways to fit the demands of our Lord. Selah.
