Herod Agrippa 1 was the grandson of Herod the Great who ended up ruling over even more territory than did his grandfather, Herod the Great. It would appear that their evil conduct in pride, arrogance and murder escalated as the generations progressed. Here’s the greatest danger you face, what you pass on will escalate either as a righteous or an unrighteous legacy!
The highlights of his life are detailed in Acts 12 (AMPC):
- The legacy of hatred for the truth, incitement to mass murder just like his grandfather—About that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to afflict and oppress and torment some who belonged to the church (assembly). And he killed James the brother of John with a sword; and when he saw that it was pleasing to the Jews, he proceeded further and arrested Peter also. This was during the days of Unleavened Bread [the Passover week]. And when he had seized [Peter], he put him in prison and delivered him to four squads of soldiers of four each to guard him, purposing after the Passover to bring him forth to the people. So Peter was kept in prison, but fervent prayer for him was persistently made to God by the church (assembly). Acts 12:1-5 (AMPC)
- Full of hatred and self-promotion, he dared what even angels except Satan dare not do, he accepted worship and met his doom—Now [Herod] cherished bitter animosity and hostility for the people of Tyre and Sidon; and [their deputies] came to him in a united body, and having made Blastus the king’s chamberlain their friend, they asked for peace, because their country was nourished by and depended on the king’s [country] for food. On an appointed day Herod arrayed himself in his royal robes, took his seat upon [his] throne, and addressed an oration to them. And the assembled people shouted, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man! And at once an angel of the Lord smote him and cut him down, because he did not give God the glory (the preeminence and kingly majesty that belong to Him as the supreme Ruler); and he was eaten by worms and died. Acts 12:20-23 (AMPC)
So was the lineage of Herod terminated after Herod Agrippa II. To fail to take heed to instruction on raising our children according to God’s divine principle is an act of selfishness, not only because you despise the option of a righteous legacy but also cut short their lives. This word is sure as we shall presently see in our next posting. Shalom.
