Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward; How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will? Hebrews 2:1-4
Verse 1 clearly alerts us to the possibility that what we have heard can slip from our hands, and that at any time! Beloved you must constantly remind yourself of this, consciously introspecting where you stand in your walk in the faith of Christ delivered to us.
What a warning, that if the words of angels held, how much more the word of the Almighty God, concerning the sure judgment coming upon those who neglect this great salvation.
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6
And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. John 10:28-29
John 14:6 is so explicit, and the assurance of John 10:28-29, upon which Paul drew inspiration for his admonition in Romans 8:35-39, is so definitive that the risk of falling is uniquely yours and mine only. Nothing else can take me or you out of the Father’s hand.
Beloved, look to yourself, are you in the faith following the original gospel attested to in 1 Timothy 2:5. Be wary of the alternative gospels out there, you must take responsibility for yourself in these dangerous times. Shalom.
