And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. Luke 2:8-12
Associated to the first coming of the Lord Jesus Christ were heavenly proclamations:
- In the stars to those Magi from the East – Matthew 2:1-3; and
- To the shepherds in the course of their duty – Luke 2:8-10
That proclamation was broadcast to:
- Rulers of that time, both political and religious as manifest our reference in gospel according to Matthew;
- The poor, the shepherds in the course of their daily grind; and
- Amongst those who genuinely waited for His coming within the religious – Luke 2:15-20, 38.
Recognising the chiasma principle established in the scriptures, we judge that as it was at His first coming, so will it be at end of time – Matthew 24:14.
And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. Matthew 24:14
The big question is whether all of us who claim to be believers understand this responsibility that is laid upon us. Are we positioned to do what the scriptures reveal?
