The pattern of God-sent shepherds as revealed in both the Old and New Testament is consistent as we see demonstrated in our text for today. It did not matter that in this case the people were rebellious!
And the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment. And they fell upon their faces, and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin and will You be angry with all the congregation?… And Moses and Aaron came to the front of the Tent of Meeting. And the Lord said to Moses, Get away from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment. And Moses and Aaron fell on their faces. And Moses said to Aaron, Take a censer and put fire in it from off the altar and lay incense on it, and carry it quickly to the congregation and make atonement for them. For there is wrath gone out from the Lord; the plague has begun! Numbers 16:20-22, 43-46 (AMPC)
First, we see that Aaron who was a complainer and finger-pointer with Aunty Miriam earlier had been converted to the heart of a shepherd, but more those close enough to true shepherds are delivered from the judgment to come as was the case of the sons of Korah who became notable in the house of God despite the error of their father! We will deal with this further in our next post, suffice it that the shepherd’s heart labours to see the deliverance of their people, their attitudes or behaviour notwithstanding. Is this true of you? Selah.
