Only motive that is purpose-directed can free us from the selfish competition that is the chief cause of sin.
And speaking of purpose, I mean God’s established purpose for you.
The pursuit of divinely established purpose for Paul (Acts 26:16-18) was the overriding life motive that saved him from being sucked into selfish competition manifest in the ‘church/ministry’ environment described in 1 Cor 1:10-13 and Philippians 1:12-18.
What is the reason/end purpose for that thing your heart is set upon to achieve? Free yourself by this understanding, from selfish competition knowing that Matthew 13:41-43 speaks always.
Good morning and have a blessed weekend.
======================
Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you. Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ. Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?
1 Corinthians 1:10-13 KJV
Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will: The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds: But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel. What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.
Philippians 1:15-18 KJV
The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.
Matthew 13:41-43 KJV
