The volatile state of affairs around every believer demands certainty in the outcome of our relationship with our Saviour and our God, and a failure to realise our expectations is causing many to abandon their faith blaming God for not answering them. But is God really to blame? Have we known to approach Him on His stated terms, not mine, not yours but His terms? It is to understand and answer these two questions accurately that we start on our understanding of His nature.
The Unchangeability or Immutability of God is that attribute that “God is unchanging in His character, will, and covenant promises.”
Yahweh is a spirit, whose being, wisdom, power, holiness, justice, goodness, and truth are infinite, eternal, and unchangeable. These things do not change as attested to by the following scriptures:
- Numbers. 23:19;
- 1 Samuel 15:29;
- Psalm 102:26;
- Malachi 3:6;
- 2 Timothy 2:13;
- Hebrews 6:17–18; and
- James1:17
God’s immutability defines all His other attributes. God is:
- immutably wise,
- merciful,
- good, and
- gracious
Yahweh is the:
- Almighty/omnipotent (having all power),
- Omnipresent (present everywhere),
- Omniscient (knows everything), eternally and immutably so
Infiniteness and immutability in God are mutually supportive, mutually reinforcing and imply each other. An infinite and changing God is inconceivable; indeed, it is a contradiction in definition.
Receiving whatever we ask is predicated on:
- Believing on Him, the only basis for asking in His name;
- Abiding in Him and letting His word abide in us; and
- Subjecting yourself to His will. His will regarding your fruitfulness supersedes any other consideration!
Can we check ourselves on these three conditionalities before we start apportioning blame! Selah

Our God truly is unchangeable. He remains the same and there is no shadow of turning with Him. As long as we abide in Him and we study His words and the same words abide in us, we will ask right and He will answer us. Amen.
