Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed. Proverbs 15:22 (NIV)
A good mentor does three things:
- Observes
- Instructs, and
- Motivates
Are you intimidated by the thought of someone evaluating you? People look at you and evaluate you anyway, so why not find a God-fearing mentor amongst them who you will trust with access to these essential parts of your Christian life development:
- Spiritual development
- Personal discipline
- Family relationships
- Decision making
- Handling finances
- Conflict resolution
- Picking the right people to associate with
- Breaking bad habits and establishing good ones
- Goal setting and planning for the future
Furthermore, opening the doors to evaluation is what you owe to yourself and those that depend on you.
It may mean serving in an environment without being paid, an issue with this generation! What you learn is more important than what you earn, because what you learn early determines what you earn later in life. What you don’t know can put a lid on your potential. Lastly don’t let it stop with you, pass on what you’ve been given to someone else (Matthew 10:8b; 2 Timothy 2:2).
In these times that we are, let us pour into others what God and others have poured into us, so they will go further and faster too. Shalom.
