Mature Faith

by Pastor Afolabi Oladele

The faith that sees with the mind of God does not consider it a lie to call the things that ‘be not as though they are;’ or to call the things that do not yet exist as though they did. It is the faith that refuses to see with the eyes (reasoning, thought or intellect). Such is the imagery conveyed in out text of today—

but also to those who enter into the faith of Abraham, the father of us all. That’s what the Scripture means when it says: “I have made you the father of many nations.” He is our example and father, for in God’s presence he believed that God can raise the dead and call into being things that don’t even exist yet. Against all odds, when it looked hopeless, Abraham believed the promise and expected God to fulfill it. He took God at his word, and as a result he became the father of many nations. God’s declaration over him came to pass: “Your descendants will be so many that they will be impossible to count!” In spite of being nearly one hundred years old when the promise of having a son was made, his faith was so strong that it could not be undermined by the fact that he and Sarah were incapable of conceiving a child. He never stopped believing God’s promise, for he was made strong in his faith to father a child. And because he was mighty in faith and convinced that God had all the power needed to fulfill his promises, Abraham glorified God! Romans 4:16b-21 (TPT)

Abraham, even when his physical body was contrary:

  • Believed and confessed that he has a seed, and
  • When the seed was called to die, believed that God would anyhow bring His word, His promise of a living seed to pass, bringing a dead child back to life!

Unbelief is living by the evidence we see, what the present environment or circumstance leads us to see as the conclusion of a matter. Mature faith proceeds on a matter based on what God has said. God said it, I believe it and will walk as His word has directed. Mature faith rests secured in God’s faithfulness to keep His word.

Those struggles and missteps of Abraham were part of the process of faith development! Our walk of faith begins at salvation. At first, we may also struggle, but along the way, our focus gradually shifts from the obstacles to God’s infallibility when it comes to what He has promised. He keeps His word because He is God who never lies. Mature faith is the foundation for stability in these unstable times. Get a hold of the imparted righteousness of our God and Christ and hold to God’s unchanging and unfailing hands. Shalom.
