And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away. And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone. But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary. And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.
But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased. Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God. Matthew 14:22-33
Will He send deliberately put me in danger, sending me to the jaws of death? No, He loves too much for that. Rather, that our perception and persuasion may be that He has a lesson to teach in whatever life -threatening circumstance we may face.
Alone by Himself on the mountain to pray He remained there or perhaps delayed, until the 4th watch before He left for them, just as He did with Lazarus. Know that to every seeming delay, there is a purpose to the delay. Knowing His promise of being with us, should we despair and yield to fear in those moments of danger? In those moments, if we hear Him, there is the sound of comfort – such as Paul spoke to in 2 Corinthians 1:3-6.
Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ. And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation. 2 Corinthians 1:3-6
He even responds to our doubtful disposition despite the proof of His presence, testing our resolve to keep our eyes on Him. He deals with our doubts and despairs walking with us to the safety we are used to. Think on these things whatever the future faces us with. Selah.
