In The Face of Adversity

The wretchedness of our nation, its governance and the frailty of our frame does feel like oversized bricks on the shoulders that push the gaze downwards. From the:

  • plight of our children who have hardly spent a fortnight in school before the teachers went on indefinite strike, to
  • stranded commuters unable to go to their places of work, to
  • damaged engines from bad fuel imported by the government and their agents, to
  • lost hours in queues waiting to buy fuel, and fuel shortage induced traffic congestion

one cannot but ask if there is hope for the people and how much longer can we forbear?

For the believers there is always hope, hope based on God’s unfailing promises and for which He tasked us as in our text for today – Matthew 7:7-8 (NLT)

Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.

Effective prayer, not as a formula to get things from God, rather a getting into a father-child relationship that enables us to appreciate the good heart that He has towards us in ensuring He helps us in all dimensions through our adverse circumstances! Will you follow the instructions and enter His rest? That demands trust, faith-filled dependence, and reliance on Him.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Proverbs 3:5 (NLT)

This is His charge to us. He will work things out and in time too. Selah.
