Head And Heart Religion—James 1:22

Head and heart religion. Apostle James put it square and fair, remember, it is a message to obey, not just to listen to. So, don’t fool yourselves (James 1:22 TLB).

Late Evangelist Frisby also spoke of head and heart religion. Both alluded to the Hebrew word “shemah” which means “to hear and obey” and when we read or listen to God’s word and do not obey it, applying it to practical living we deceive ourselves because:

  1. we are settling for knowledge rather than experience and that is sin. Bible knowledge without obedience is sin. James 4:17 (TLB) says, Remember, too, that knowing what is right to do and then not doing it is sin.
  2. we are moved briefly but not permanently changed, with the danger of building a reservoir of defensive responses that causes us to hide and protect our carnality when the truth gets too close for comfort we have enough reasons to justify our stance that it should apply to others and not us; and
  3. we forfeit God’s demand for our transformation, setting for just communication; simply not walking our talk.

But we Christians have no veil over our faces; we can be mirrors that brightly reflect the glory of the Lord. And as the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more and more like him. 2 Corinthians 3:18 TLB

We can all draw close to him with the veil removed from our faces. And with no veil we all become like mirrors who brightly reflect the glory of the Lord Jesus.  We are being transfigured into his very image as we move from one brighter level of glory to another. And this glorious transfiguration comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. 2 Corinthians 3:18 TPT
