Finishing, Finishing Strong And Finishing Well (Part 1)

by Pastor Afolabi Oladele

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds. Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin. And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? Hebrews 12:1-7

What will it take to finish strong and finish well?

  • Identify every weight you are carrying. They will only slow you down; weary you out and put you out of the race. We both have a standing offer in Matthew 11:28-29;
  • What about that one sin, that so discourages you that you want to give up? That one thing that deters you from reaching the goal set for us as admonished in 1 Timothy 6:12. Did you know the fullness of what Jesus did for you and me, Romans 5:17,18 (NLT)

I know that those things exist, such as made our Saviour in Matthew 26:38-42 face the last minute reluctance to turn back from the bridge to the very difficult assignment, wilting under the pressure of the flesh despite the knowledge of Isaiah 43:2 and Psalm 23:4a. But thanks be to our God. In the place of supplication to the Father, He received strength for quiet endurance, quiet resignation and assurance in John 8:29. If He did it for the Lord, tell me why He will not so it for you, otherwise John 16:27 would not be true. So saint, it is not time to give up. Be strong not in your strength neither yet in your savvy, but in the Lord and in the power of His might. Selah.
