There are indeed controversies over the day and time to celebrate the birth of Christ, particularly the paganisation and now the commercialisation; but there are equally incontrovertible facts that:
- Jesus was born (Matthew 2:1; Luke 2:4-7)
- The location and accurate description of His birth down to clothing and crib is recorded (Luke 2:7)
- His birth was celestially and earthly announced (Luke 2:9-12)
- His birth was celebrated with praise and outstanding witness, a testimony of the significance of His birth. Why?
- The significance of His birth was announced not only in Bethlehem but drew the magi, waiters in time of His coming, to come and worship (Matthew 2:16-18)
His birth drew the maniacal fratricide from the self-seeking, status-preserving human ruler; and in a replay of purpose preservation that no man can thwart God’s plan, just as Egypt preserved Israel with a sanctuary in Genesis 45:16-24, Egypt would do the same again with the born King (Matthew 2:13-14).
Should these prophecy fulfilment and historical facts be sacrificed, erased or wished away on account of paganisation and satanic commercialisation? I trust not!
Let your motive speak and take your stand, bearing in mind the wisdom given to Apostle Paul as recorded in Colossians 2:14-16 and Romans 14:3,10,13. The former scripture clearly sets the context of “ordinances that was against us” referred not to the ten commandments which are not contrary to the demands of righteousness under grace! Rather they spoke to ceremonial observance of sacrifices and holy days that were shadows of things to come, which things were fulfilling already in the appearance of Christ.
So, seek out those things that are inimical to your faith in celebrating the birth of Christ and avoid them. Judge your celebrating or not celebrating Christmas in this light. Rejoice that Christ was born, connecting the common man to God and the manifestation of God’s awesome greatness in simplicity. There’s more to come in the next posting. Shalom.
