About Tomorrow and The Things That Matter—Revelation 22:13

Our text for the day reads:

I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. Revelation 22:13

Everything from the beginning to the end is in Him just as the lyrics of an old church song declares, “He’s the first and the last, the beginning and the end, His name is Jesus, praise the Lord.”

This is the bedrock of the assurance given in Matthew 6:34. For those in our neck of the woods, recalling the massive transformation in lifestyle that the ten months of the year have brought to all and sundry, the escape from disillusionment and hopelessness is absolute reliance and trust in the God that asked us not to take thought of tomorrow.

Whenever tomorrow comes and however it meets you and me, He is already there.

Remember the things I have done in the past. For I alone am God! I am God, and there is none like me. Only I can tell you the future before it even happens. Everything I plan will come to pass, for I do whatever I wish. Isaiah 46:9-10 (NLT)

Your wisdom is then to seek and to hear His voice as John 10:3b-4 admonishes.

The gatekeeper opens the gate for him [the shepherd], and the sheep recognize his voice and come to him. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. After he has gathered his own flock, he walks ahead of them, and they follow him because they know his voice. John 10:3-4 (NLT)

and this wisdom comes by spending time with Him. Don’t pay attention to others for they will lead you in the path of independence, the contrary and worldly wisdom against which we are warned.

‘Look here, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.” How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. What you ought to say is, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.” Otherwise you are boasting about your own pretentious plans, and all such boasting is evil. James 4:13-16 (NLT)

Listen, those of you who are boasting, “Today or tomorrow we’ll go to another city and spend some time and go into business and make heaps of profit!” But you don’t have a clue what tomorrow may bring. For your fleeting life is but a warm breath of air that is visible in the cold only for a moment and then vanishes! Instead you should say, “Our tomorrows are in the Lord’s hands and if he is willing we will live life to its fullest and do this or that.” But here you are, boasting in your ignorance, for to be presumptuous about what you’ll do tomorrow is evil! James 4:13-16 (TPT)

In these times, your pursuit of business or gain that is not rooted in His purpose for your life will draw you into stumbling and a fall. Selah.
