A Race Against The Snail

A man that does know the time is like a fish caught and trapped in a net. At the coming of the Lord there will be people who will be “trapped” because they were caught unprepared.

I Chron 12: 32 and of the children of Issachar which were men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do…

The above Scripture shows that it is not just about knowing the times but we need to know what we are meant to do.

A man told to run in a race against a snail will be so confident that he will beat the snail that he will first sit down and laugh after the whistle goes off. But what if while the man is sitting down another man picks us the snail and finishes the race? The snail will obviously be the winner of the race. This is the kind of race we are in at the endtime.

Jesus said “behold I come quickly” over 2, 000 years ago and He still has not come. A lot of us think there’s still time to play and do whatever we like because Jesus still hasn’t come and only “adjust” when natural disasters such as tsunamis and earthquakes happen. The issue of the coming of the Lord is like the race in the between the man and the snail (illustration just given). We might look at the snail as a very slow animal but there’s a force behind the snail.

The snail represents the things Jesus said will happen and are not happening with the rapidity we expect them to. And as a result of this we become complacent and go to sleep and become unaware of the danger involved. Because of complacency (to be self-satisfied usually in an unreflective way) the race we are in is a very dangerous one.

A race is a contest of speed and in the illustration the snail won. In the same way the prophecies of God will come to pass. God is not loosing any sleep over whether they will come to pass or not. When Jesus said “I come quickly” the power to fulfill it was in it. It was already fulfilled we are only waiting for the manifestation. Don’t judge this race by your senses, stop setting dates and getting yourself and people frustrated when Jesus does not come when you said He will.

I John 3: 3 and every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as He is pure.

The greatest motivation for holiness is the coming of the Lord. Whatever holiness is preached without talking about the coming of the Lord has no basis. The 5 foolish virgins were also pure i.e. virgins but they missed the LORD. Do not think that you can preach holiness and have no business with the endtime or that you can preach about the endtime and not preach on holiness. You must strive on a daily basis to live better than yesterday.

I Thess 5:1- 7 Ye are children of light and the children of the day………………….let us not sleep as do others but let us watch and be sober……………they that be drunken are drunken in the night.

As numerous as snails are all around us they are unobserved. Land and fresh water snails often stay hidden during the day and are active at night. Spiritually we are in the nighttime and this is why we find it difficult to do the right things and want to live and behave like sinners. Count it strange not to feel this way but count it strange if you behave like as children of the night. If it is natural to feel this way then you should raise yourself to the level of supernaturality.

I John 5: 4 for whatever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

2 Pet. 1: 3-4 According as His divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness…………………ye might be partakers of the divine nature.

It is as we walk according to what God says that we live above the world.

Matt. 24: 43 but know this, if the good man of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched and not have suffered his house to be broken up.

Eccl. 3: 1, 14 to everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven ….I know that, whatsoever God doeth it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor anything taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before Him.

The Goodman of the house did not watch because he did not put it in his mind that the thief will come. The Bible says “looking and hastening unto the coming of the Lord” – this is how the coming of the Lord should be to us. Those who wait for the coming of the Lord are consciously looking and waiting for Him without sin unto salvation. This race is not about speed but about timing, so to win this race you have to move with the snail which has God’s timing programmed in it.
