In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. John 14:2
Our minds cannot picture what the Lord said in our scripture text, what Heaven is like until we see what scriptures like Revelation 21:16-26 (NLT) presents about the new Jerusalem.
When he measured it, he found it was a square, as wide as it was long. In fact, its length and width and height were each 1,400 miles. Then he measured the walls and found them to be 216 feet thick (according to the human standard used by the angel). The wall was made of jasper, and the city was pure gold, as clear as glass. The wall of the city was built on foundation stones inlaid with twelve precious stones: the first was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald, the fifth onyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, the twelfth amethyst. The twelve gates were made of pearls—each gate from a single pearl! And the main street was pure gold, as clear as glass. I saw no temple in the city, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. And the city has no need of sun or moon, for the glory of God illuminates the city, and the Lamb is its light. The nations will walk in its light, and the kings of the world will enter the city in all their glory. Its gates will never be closed at the end of day because there is no night there. And all the nations will bring their glory and honor into the city. Revelation 21:16-26 (NLT)
A cuboid city representing 2 million square miles or 5,180 million square kilometres in land area, equivalent to half the land area of Europe! Imagine how many homes can fit into this space, capable of holding 300 million people fit into it. One city of shimmering shades of glory, a timeless zone since there is neither moon nor sun, for the Lord Himself is the Light of the glorious city! This is where Christ has gone to prepare a place for us, yet how much of our thoughts are focused on Heaven?
Can we individually take up the challenge of:
- Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. Colossians 3:1,2 (NLT)
- Christ’s resurrection is your resurrection too. This is why we are to yearn for all that is above, for that’s where Christ sits enthroned at the place of all power, honor, and authority! Yes, feast on all the treasures of the heavenly realm and fill your thoughts with heavenly realities, and not with the distractions of the natural realm. Colossians 3:1-2 (TPT)
- “Don’t keep hoarding for yourselves earthly treasures that can be stolen by thieves. Material wealth eventually rusts, decays, and loses its value. Instead, stockpile heavenly treasures for yourselves that cannot be stolen and will never rust, decay, or lose their value. For your heart will always pursue what you esteem as your treasure. “The eyes of your spirit allow revelation-light to enter into your being. If your heart is unclouded, the light floods in! But if your eyes are focused on money, the light cannot penetrate, and darkness takes its place. How profound will be the darkness within you if the light of truth cannot enter! “How could you worship two gods at the same time? You will have to hate one and love the other or be devoted to one and despise the other. You can’t worship the true God while enslaved to the god of money!” Matthew 6:19-24 (TPT)
Close out this year with heart desire to focus on the heaven promised and its realities lest you lose sight and lose out! Shalom.
