Preparing For Adversity

by Pastor Afolabi Oladele

Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought: But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? but we have the mind of Christ. 1 Corinthians 2:6-16

Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing. For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. Hebrews 5:11-14

In our own strength, we can only rely on what we see, hear and feel in order to evaluate circumstances and relationships to make decisions. When the Holy Spirit comes to live in us, He opens up in us an entirely new dimension of understanding; showing us things we could never figure out by ourselves. Paul’s emphatic prayers in Ephesians 1:16-20; Colossians 1:9-11; and 1 Corinthians 2:12 are instructive.

The voice of the Spirit of God must never be silent in your life if you want to go far in life! When God’s voice is silent, your progress in destiny is halted – Psalms 74:9; Amos 8:11-14! Do not despise the Holy Spirit, no do not for you will have shut yourself out of the explicit work of the Holy Spirit as the TEACHER – John 14:26; 1 John 2:27. You lose discernment and fall prey to those who are out to deceive. Only by reason of your senses by the word of God that you will be able to test their lies (1 John 4:1). It’s time to prepare yourself.
