2020 Was An Appointed Year

Oh praise the Lord, o ye people, exalt the Lord our God.

Psalm 92:1-5 and Psalm 139:17 capture what the Lord has done for each of us during an appointed year as 2020 has been.

An appointed year indeed that put the nations and the people on notice as to who is in charge; yet one in which God showed extra-ordinary love to His children. Look back and count your blessings, how as it is written, He guided you and satisfied your desire in scorched places making your bones strong. In provision and protection you were not lacking, look back and see where you are and take time to count your blessings, name them one by one and it will surprise you what the Lord has done!

As we look ahead, consider the question that the Lord God almighty asked Adam in Genesis 3:9. Who created the garden? Would He not know the nooks and the crannies of the place and for the Omniscient and Omnipresent, was it that He did not know the physical location of the hiding man? Psalm 139:7-12

 Where shall I go from your Spirit?
    Or where shall I flee from your presence?
If I ascend to heaven, you are there!
    If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!
If I take the wings of the morning
    and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
even there your hand shall lead me,
    and your right hand shall hold me.
If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me,
    and the light about me be night,”
even the darkness is not dark to you;
    the night is bright as the day,
    for darkness is as light with you
. Psalm 139:7-12 ESV

Adam perfectly understood the question and gave an indirect confessional answer that something had changed! ‘I lost the garment of covering you gave me because of a ‘knowing’, the result of a shift of loyalty, from God and His trustworthiness. This my beloved brothers and sisters is the question you will be faced with over and over in 2021 when we will feel the pressures of entering the dangerous intersections of beliefs and choices.

I speak of a knowing because indeed as Daniel spoke in Daniel 12:4 (TLB). “But Daniel, keep this prophecy a secret; seal it up so that it will not be understood until the end times, when travel and education shall be vastly increased!” Simultaneously as God will be revealing what He commanded Daniel to seal, so will travel and education, implicitly talking to us about a choice each of us will have to make and where our loyalty will be! The question is what education? It is the explosion in the knowledge of good and evil, where every one of the inventions or innovations has a dark side replicating the personification of that tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Consider just a few examples to illustrate this:

  • Global Positioning System (GPS) that most people are familiar with works because there are a good number of satellites orbiting the earth and it provides us with guidance on where and how to get to where we are going. It is now normal lingo to “Google it” when you are seeking directions! Together with CCTV put in place to monitor traffic and reduce crime, networked with high speed internet, it has become tool for facial recognition, militarized and programmed for destructive purposes in drones. Recall the killing of Iranian Soleimani! Two sides of a coin, good and evil.
  • DNA manipulation and modification, promoted as medical tool for growing health body parts to cure diseases, is in application now in mRNA applied in the manufacture of vaccines capable of carrying manipulative and controlling messages; again coupled with the internet; along with what we just discussed we see the emergence of the face of the serpent (Revelation 12:14), a mimicking of what God alone has exclusive reserve – Psalm 139 that I spoke to earlier. Also note Daniel 2:43;
  • In the field of commerce and online shopping, our convenience is said to be the objective, but the data gathered and mined allows the configuration of your taste and personality.

I could go on but the point is made, your choices will show where your loyalty lies. Beware of impulsive decisions, resort to the word of God, knowing and speaking it accurately because that word is not subject to debate, lest we be stripped as happened to Adam. Let’s be mindful of the admonition in 1 Timothy 4:7, 2 Timothy 2:16-18, and Titus 1:9-14 knowing that we war not against flesh and blood (2 Corinthians 10:4-6 (NLT/TLB).

The year 2021 comes with seasons of exemptions for all who will stay loyal to the Lord our God, just as He provided an ark of safety for righteous Noah who persevered in the face of the mockery of those seeing him build an ark! Now you must make 2021 a year of spiritual productivity pleasing the Lord in your fruitfulness.
