The Battle For The Soul of The Nation Starts With The Church—Ephesians 3:10 (Part 2)

We laid a foundation in the last post to draw attention to the trail of events in Nigeria since the revival of the late 1960s that lasted to the late 1970s and the subsequent failed role of the church. This is not to cast blame, but to awaken a church that has been paralysed and neutralised when it comes to the exercise of her vested powers because of her dalliance with the prince of materialism, Mammon, who sits pretty on her pulpits.

For those who are old enough to remember, we would draw attention to pointed prophesies that spoke to the destiny of this nation, and for those who were not yet born, we bring clarity to the events that continue to haunt this country because those who were aware failed to speak to the conditions of consecration and righteousness needed to halt their fulfilment!

Prophecies regarding Nigeria from the 1970s and 1980s, attributed to figures like Pa Sydney Granville Elton, spoke to:

“1. Nigeria’s internal conflicts through the lens of biblical Abrahamic lineages, specifically portraying a spiritual struggle between the “seed of Ishmael” and the “seed of Isaac/Jacob”. The prophetic narratives cast the nation as a microcosm of the biblical rivalry, where the “seed of Ishmael” (interpreted as the Islamic North or forces of flesh/persecution) struggles against the “seed of Isaac/Jacob” (the Christian South/Middle Belt, or “Joseph Christians”). It was prophesied that the “seed of Ishmael” would persecute the “seed of Isaac”. The allusion to Genesis 16:12 regarding Ishmael, stating his “hand would be against every man,” spoke directly to a period of sustained turmoil in Nigeria driven by forces seeking to impose their will.

Pa Elton, a key British missionary in Nigeria from 1937 to 1987, famously prophesied that while Nigeria would be known for corruption (“Nigeria will stink for corruption”), a new phase of righteousness would emerge as the young generation of students spearheading the “Latter Rain” revival would be the future pillars of the nation, even as they faced envy and intense opposition. As a local assembly this underlaid years (now nearly two decades) of investment of material and spiritual resources in the youth beyond our congregation. The latest reminder not to back away from believing for the fulfilment birthed the book released in December 2025, titled “Bring The Children Back Under The Covenant,” a clarion call to parental responsibility.

These prophecies were not merely seen as religious, but as foundational to the spiritual and political structure of Nigeria, with many believing that the nation’s ability to “heal the rest of Africa” depended on its spiritual victory, according to visions shared later by figures like Dr. Cindy Jacobs.

ii. Described a period of intense spiritual and economic darkness that would envelop the nation. This period was predicted to be a consequence of corruption, mismanagement, and spiritual rebellion. The visions indicated that the land would face severe turmoil, leading to extreme hardship that would make people act as if they were “mad” or mentally broken due to the sheer weight of misery. Prophetic words indicated that Nigeria would go through a phase of profound chaos, where “darkness” (moral, economic, and physical power failure) would fill the land.

  • Madness and Distress: While the phrasing “walk mad in the street” is a strong interpretation of “social unrest,” sources note prophecies of severe suffering, where “hunger, poverty, and suffering have taken over the land,” causing the naira to become worthless.
  • The Turning Point: A key component of these 1970s prophecies (specifically from Pa Elton) is that after this period of intense darkness, the nation would experience a drastic change.
  • Righteousness Later: The second part of these prophetic visions stated that after the darkness, Nigeria would experience a revival of righteousness, to the extent that other nations would come to Nigeria to learn.”

In September 2025, we received clearly from the Lord that “2026 is a watershed year beginning God’s direct intervention in the affairs of the nations”, with the admonition for believers to return to the Lord in full sanctification and consecration. This was the theme of the solemn assembly and continuing ministrations in the local assembly.

These 1970s prophetic messages are still heavily discussed today, as believers wait for the full manifestation of the promised restoration after the period of hardship. But to a blind church, are the signs not evident?

Isaiah 56:10 described leaders as blind, lazy dogs, watchmen that are that are blind, ignorant, silent and slothful, neglecting their duty to warn the people; preferring leisure and indulgence rather than protect the people. But like the race of the snail, these events have come full circle, and we reveal them, if there are those sufficiently concerned to take the steps needed to reverse the ominous events that have befallen us as a people.

A living former Head of State in 1975 allegedly declared at the height of the oil boom that “money is not our problem, but how to spend it”. The nation with God’s endowment took the first step of inviting the forces of darkness and prescient devils with the African Festival of Arts (FESTAC ’77) into the rulership over this nation! With it came the cement armada, the 10% commissions on contracts, a demand that places man on the same pedestal as Yawheh Elohim tithe principle.

  1. There the root of endemic corruption was planted, and
  2. The seal of rule of physical darkness in the issue of providing electricity for the country. Based on data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and government reports, expenditure on the Nigerian electricity sector between 1999 and 2024 has been high, yet often cited as insufficient to meet infrastructural demands. Total Cumulative Expenditure (1999–2015) showed that over ₦2.74 trillion was invested in the power sector by 2015 (USD 13 billion). Post-Privatisation, between 2013–2026, has seen the federal government spend over ₦7 trillion on the power sector since privatisation in 2013. If we took into account the recent agreement to pay the power sector operators the indebtedness of ₦4 trillion, this translates to a conservative expenditure of nearly ₦14 trillion in nominal ₦ without an improvement. And listen the rulers of darkness invited are demonstrating God’s judgment, as per the prophecy that warned as we showed earlier in this post!
  3. The invitation by a deceased former president of this nation and his collaborators in his desperation to be president to the Fulani marauders brought to light the longstanding prophecy regarding the agenda that has openly played out over the last 12 years. Yet the church that should know did not see the open door granted to other devils and ancient gods by a president who is answering for his crimes before his maker.

Sadly, while the sleeping church was swayed by lack of spiritual discernment and media stories, it failed to recognise the spiritual battle being waged by the forces of darkness, and contented itself with making noise to the powerless.

The wanton rape, murder and property destruction that is now perpetrated by herdsmen, Islamic and other criminal collaborators has spread from the North to the South of Nigeria, fulfilling the intent to conquer from the desert to the Atlantic Ocean.

But has anyone studied their pattern of operations? Then it would have been obvious from the manner of oppression of Israel described in Judges 6:2-6, that the same spiritual forces that prevailed (the Midian and Amalek spirits) in Israel have been at work.

Midian, Amalek, and other neighboring nations came and destroyed their crops and plundered the countryside as far away as Gaza, leaving nothing to eat and taking away all their sheep, oxen, and donkeys. These enemy hordes arrived on droves of camels too numerous to count and stayed until the land was completely stripped and devastated. So Israel was reduced to abject poverty because of the Midianites. Judges 6:3-6 TLB

America’s singular intervention in December 2025 has not stayed the cruelty of the Amalek and Midianites god as is being witnessed today. As the Israelites took to the mountains, living in caves and dens, so are our people in the North running, hiding and living on trees.

The government doesn’t have the answer because you cannot do spiritual warfare with carnal weapons. Only a clean, separated and consecrated church filled with the fear of God can engage in the battle to free Nigeria; and the covenant still stands, that the nation would experience a drastic change; that after the darkness, Nigeria would experience a revival of righteousness, to the extent that other nations would come to Nigeria to learn.

Rather than engage in the ongoing distraction about elections, the church needs to see and understand the pattern set in Daniel 7:2-3; that the emergence of rulers from the sea of humanity is a consequence of activities, the striving of the unseen rulers of darkness. Rather than confront these rulers of darkness in active, persistent prayers of faith that seek the assertion of God’s will on earth, we are drawn into the fruitless and vain debates of the generality of people.

This is a clarion call to awake the church from slumber, repent of its sin of compromise typical of Laodicea and pray! We can tap into 2 Chronicles 7:14; 2 Corinthians 10:4-6 and Ephesians 6:11-18.

This is not a one time, one-day prayer, but an enlisting to warfare until we see the promise of righteousness of a nation, emerging in power to bring the light back to other nations as prophesied. Selah
