Thinking About Humility—Philippians 2:8

Humility and submission voluntarily make us place ourselves below what or who we really are in substance, form or status (Jesus Christ was bond servant vs God)…and more as a sacrifice for others! Consider the following scriptures:

  1. Romans 1:3,4 (TPT)—For the gospel is all about God’s Son. As a man he descended from David’s royal lineage, but as the mighty Son of God he was raised from the dead and miraculously set apart with a display of triumphant power supplied by the Spirit of Holiness. And now Jesus is our Lord and our Messiah.
  2. Hebrews 2:9-14 (TPT)—But we see Jesus, who as a man, lived for a short time lower than the angels and has now been crowned with glorious honor because of what he suffered in his death. For it was by God’s grace that he experienced death’s bitterness on behalf of everyone! For now he towers above all creation, for all things exist through him and for him. And that God made him, pioneer of our salvation, perfect through his sufferings, for this is how he brings many sons and daughters to share in his glory. Jesus, the Holy One, makes us holy. And as sons and daughters, we now belong to his same Father, so he is not ashamed or embarrassed to introduce us as his brothers and sisters! For he has said, “I will reveal who you really are to my brothers and sisters, and I will glorify you with praise in the midst of the congregation.” And, “My confidence rests in God!” And again, he says, “Here I am, one with the children Yahweh has given me.” Since all his “children” have flesh and blood, so Jesus became human to fully identify with us. He did this, so that he could experience death and annihilate the effects of the intimidating accuser who holds against us the power of death.

Do you see how it all falls into place in Philippians 2:6-11 (TPT)?

He existed in the form of God, yet he gave no thought to seizing equality with God as his supreme prize. Instead he emptied himself of his outward glory by reducing himself to the form of a lowly servant. He became human! He humbled himself and became vulnerable, choosing to be revealed as a man and was obedient. He was a perfect example, even in his death—a criminal’s death by crucifixion! Because of that obedience, God exalted him and multiplied his greatness! He has now been given the greatest of all names! The authority of the name of Jesus causes every knee to bow in reverence! Everything and everyone will one day submit to this name—in the heavenly realm, in the earthly realm, and in the demonic realm. And every tongue will proclaim in every language: “Jesus Christ is Lord Yahweh,” bringing glory and honor to God, his Father! Philippians 2:6-11 (TPT)

Are you humble? Are you looking for the reward of humility and submission? Think on these things. Shalom
