Will there have been the birth, the ministry, the crucifixion, the burial of the Lord and not the resurrection? This is where the apostles and disciples lost it, noting the recorded utterance of Peter and others in Luke 24:11,12. Are we again in this generation on the road to Emmaus? Filled with doubts about the soon return of the Lord?
If we would at least speak like the faithful remnant and commune with one another as:
- in the light of Malachi 3:16-17, in our dismay at the events characterising our times,
- on all the events that have happened, fulfilling what the apostles and prophets declared concerning the latter days
would the Lord not draw near to help our unbelief given what faces each of us as reality from Luke 18:6,7?
This is the way to avoid the sleep of the virgins and be the voice through whom the trumpet of His arrival is sounded. For the Lord will open our eyes as
- we discern Him by the impact of His words, and
- by koinonia, our true fellowship with one another in word, prayer and in the love of Christ
Only in communion can we go the distance during which He speaks to us. Don’t walk alone.
In walking together, we walk far because we encourage one another (Malachi 3:16-17). In communion with one another, He lights the candle of understanding during which specific instructions and revelations that He is around is given.
Consider the limit of their understanding in Luke 24 verse 19; no reference to the Messiah, neither the Christ the Son of God and propitiation for our sins, but just “a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people,” and their hope of the kingdom …the deliverance of Israel from Roman rulership (vs. 21). That this was the general belief, even amongst the closest disciples is further revealed in Thomas Didymus utterance in John 20:24-29; that request of Mrs. Zebedee in Matthew 20:21-24 and Peter’s gaffe in Matthew 16:21,22. Men and brethren there is no hope other than the blessed hope (Titus 2:13)
Oh Lord, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, Thy will be done, Thy will be done.
Selah.
