Why then was the law given at all? It was given alongside the promise to show people their sins. But the law was designed to last only until the coming of the “Seed,” the child who was promised. When God gave the law, he gave it first to angels; they gave it to Moses, his mediator, who then gave it to the people. Now, a mediator does not represent just one party alone, but God fulfilled it all by himself! Galatians 3:19-20 (TPT)
Grace still operated alongside the law, and while our attention was tied to the law, grace still prevailed for those who by faith would enter into it.
And the priest answered David, There is no common bread on hand, but there is hallowed bread–if the young men have kept themselves at least from women. And David told the priest, Truly women have been kept from us in these three days since I came out, and the food bags and utensils of the young men are clean, and although the bread will be used in a secular way, it will be set apart in the clean bags. So the priest gave him holy bread, for there was no bread there but the showbread which was taken from before the Lord to put hot bread in its place the day when it was taken away. 1 Samuel 21:4-6 (AMPC)
At the pool of Bethesda (John 5:16-17), when the man who had an infirmity for 38 years was healed on a sabbath day, the Jews not only persecuted the Lord they wanted to kill Him as demanded by the law! Not only did they not understand the place of grace with the one who gave the law, but they were also blind to what God was doing. The Lord said He worked because the Father was also working! And just as Psalms 19:1-3 reveal, we see only those things that our limited senses perceive, not knowing the things that God is doing at the same moments. Consider the events going on in our nation and all over the world and how disheartened we become as we think our prayers are not being answered. To us He appears silent, in reality He is working His purpose. Consider the Lazarus story in John 11, noting verses 21 and 32.
Apparent silence ought to grab our attention, raise our spiritual antenna to seek what is He saying to me by this silence? Apparent silence is a test of trust, would my faith waiver when expectation is slipping away? Silence will not last forever because He promised never to leave us nor forsake us. Shalom.
