David said in Psalm 139
O lord, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether. Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me. Psalm 139:1-5
And the express manifestation of this acknowledgment is fully displayed in Numbers 32:20-23, noting verse.23.
And Moses said unto them, If ye will do this thing, if ye will go armed before the Lord to war, and will go all of you armed over Jordan before the Lord, until he hath driven out his enemies from before him, and the land be subdued before the Lord: then afterward ye shall return, and be guiltless before the Lord, and before Israel; and this land shall be your possession before the Lord. But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the Lord: and be sure your sin will find you out. Numbers 32:20-23
When it comes to hiding our sin, iniquities, flaws or whatever diction we choose, it speaks about our disposition to honesty, humility and accountability. Sin is more than disobeying God by the wrong actions we take, it affects our relationship with God. It is an attempt to presume upon Him to understand and indulge us. No! Not when He has made provision for us that sin will not have dominion over us.
Beloved saint, embracing our flaws, taking responsibility to confront our wrongdoings and admitting our mistakes not only frees us but also deepens our relationship with God. Listen to King David in Psalm 32:3-5.
When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day long. For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah. I acknowledge my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah. Psalm 32:3-5
Hiding our sin comes with consequences, its burden on the heart, and the avoidable shame when we are found out. What horror to be under the weight of Proverbs 28:13.
He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy. Proverbs 28:13
Understanding the damaging effect of sin and not hiding the sin is essential to finding true forgiveness and redemption in Christ. Don’t make God a liar (Romans 3:23; 1 John 1:5,8,10) because He sees it all (Jeremiah 16:17; Luke 12:2).
Confession is a powerful act that not only releases us from the burden of sin but restores and strengthens our relationship with God. When we acknowledge and take responsibility for our sin through confession, we can experience the grace that God offers us reminding us that His love is bigger than our transgression (1 John 1:9; Psalm 51:10).
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9
Could covering your sin be the reason you are not succeeding? Unresolved guilt has the ability to corrode your confidence! We become essentially deceived preferring not to see what God’s light points out to us as sin.
Remember, anything hidden has power over you, why will you give that leverage for Satan, your enemy to blackmail you. Refuse today to live that way. The best and most liberating thing you can do today is to face what God wants to take care of in your life (Psalm 32:5). You cannot hide it from God.
Selah.
