The Spirit of David is a mentoring spirit raising an army out of the deplorables. Let’s see Psalm 78:70-72
He chose David also his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds: from following the ewes great with young he brought him to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance. So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skilfulness of his hands. Psalm 78:70-72
a) Ewe great with young; there had to be a reason for such a statement, an indication of a fundamental aspect of shepherding, carried out with
- Integrity
- Skilfulness
Talk about integrity, genuine empathy, a sensitivity to recognize pain-instigated insubordination and the humility not to react to such, submission and intimacy with God, the caller (1 Samuel 30). David’s men directed their anger at him, but David took strength from the Lord.
Afflictions and distresses found me: but thy commandments were my meditation…They have drawn nigh who persecuted me unlawfully; and they are far removed from thy law. Thou art near, O Lord; and all thy ways are truth. Psalm 119:143,150,151 (LXX)
In the face of afflictions and distresses, how will you respond? See the Spirit of David’s response!
b) In 1 Samuel 22:1-4, now an outlaw, David gathered fellow outlaws, malcontents, misfits as well as family members that became his mentor power base. Despite being on the run he seized the opportunity to care for his parents; this motley group became men of valour (see 2 Samuel 23).
Over what period of time? In between, paying attention to the lessons of deference to God’s will (1 Samuel 26:5-14; 1 Samuel 24:1-7; 1 Samuel 25:21-40) and not to emotional reaction (2 Samuel 19:18-22) it is estimated that the time span between 2 Chronicles 22 and 2 Chronicles 29, which captured the period of mentoring and bringing out the potentials of the men of David was between 30-42 years! What patience and endurance is required under the inspiration of the Spirit of David!
The revival of the Spirit of David demands the fulfillment of Ephesians 4:11-14, where the men that God gifted His church understand the responsibility of bringing out the God-potential in their followers! That’s what nurturing ewes great with young means. Replicate other gifts like yourselves who go out to do exploits for Yawheh Elohim. Selah.
