Whose Report Will You Believe? (Mark 4:24, Luke 8:18)

by Pastor Afolabi Oladele

And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given. Mark 4:24

Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have. Luke 8:18

Our texts today speak to the warnings of the Lord to His disciples and as true as they were for that time, even more for our times. Like a two-edged sword, there is a connection between what you hear and the use you make of it; but the more of what you hear and use will be granted to you!

Seriously consider the implication of this for what are you hearing? The one who controls the narrative owns and ultimately controls the minds of the undisciplined and the ignorant! Truly worrisome is the ease with which believers get sucked into:

  • Fear peddling under the guise of warnings against the many negative incidents prevalent in their society – Proverbs 3:25-26;
  • The complicity of politicians and profiteering ‘pharmakia’ seeking to create a ‘zombie’ society with their numerous inventions of control, from vaccinations, to electronic (number-based identification) means of transactions settlements – Eccl. 7:29; and
  • Putting their confidence in the false gods of earthly governments as the panacea to the issues!

The more we do this, the more this warning of the Lord takes a hold on such believers’ lives. It’s a downward spiral trap!

If you will be selective in what and how you hear, focusing as the Lord demanded of Joshua on God’s words and using the same, how great indeed is the power the word you speak will unleash – Joshua 1:8. We are harbingers of good news, not evil news (Romans 10:8-15) and ambassadors of reconciliation (2 Cor 5: 17-20 (MSG/NLT).

Be decisive in selecting what you hear and in what you use what you hear for. The Lord give you understanding. Selah.
