There is the other side to the power of dependence; the wrath of refusing Yahweh Elohim’s extended or outstretched hand of grace seeking to restore an erring son. Ahaz was the grandson of Uzziah and son of Jotham. The tragic end to which Ahaz came is instructive to both parents and children but more the youth who prophetically will be at the raging end of the war of the gods. The enemy knowing the promise set upon them for these end times as recorded in Acts 2:17 (AMPC).
And it shall come to pass in the last days, God declares, that I will pour out of My Spirit upon all mankind, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy [telling forth the divine counsels] and your young men shall see visions (divinely granted appearances), and your old men shall dream [divinely suggested] dreams. Acts 1:17 (AMPC)
How many of the youth are seeking the fulfillment of this promise? It is important to understand the setting to Ahaz’s tragedy in Isaiah 7:1-9 (AMPC).
In the days of Ahaz son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, Rezin the king of Syria and Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israel went up to Jerusalem to wage war against it, but they could not conquer it. And the house of David [Judah] was told, Syria is allied with Ephraim [Israel]. And the heart [of Ahaz] and the hearts of his people trembled and shook, as the trees of the forest tremble and shake with the wind. Then said the Lord to Isaiah, Go forth now to meet Judah’s KingAhaz, you and your son Shear-jashub [a remnant shall return], at the end of the aqueduct or canal of the Upper Pool on the highway to the Fuller’s Field; And say to him, Take heed and be quiet; fear not, neither be fainthearted because of these two stumps of smoking firebrands–at the fierce anger of [the Syrian King] Rezin and Syria and of the son of Remaliah [Pekah, usurper of the throne of Israel]. Because Syria, Ephraim [Israel], and the son of Remaliah have purposed evil against you [Judah], saying, Let us go up against Judah and harass and terrify it; and let us cleave it asunder [each of us taking a portion], and set a [vassal] king in the midst of it, namely the son of Tabeel, Thus says the Lord God: It shall not stand, neither shall it come to pass. For the head [the capital] of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is [King] Rezin. Within sixty-five years Ephraim will be broken to pieces so that it will no longer be a people. And the head (the capital) of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is Remaliah’s son [Pekah]. If you will not believe and trust and rely [on God and on the words of God’s prophet instead of Assyria], surely you will not be established nor will you remain. Isaiah 7:1-9 (AMPC)
Please take the time to look at the events that transpired after the promise and the warning in the scriptures listed below:
- Uzziah’s story in 2 Chronicles 26 was one of a life pleasing God that was truncated by pride, for breaking boundaries set by God. He was destroyed without pity, a consequence that probably left Jotham in fear and shock!
- Jotham’s story detailed in 2 Chronicles 27 witnessed God’s judgment on the life of a father whose pride nullified his otherwise perfect walk before God. It would be that he feared God but refused to enter the house of God, the net effect was a son,
- Ahaz, whose story fills 2 Chronicles 28.
For parents or specifically fathers, it takes one man to miss his steps and refuse to repent. The repercussion is generational; and for the young who thinks it doesn’t matter what evil you deliberately do with your life, repent, repent, repent—rather than walk deeper into darkness.
You who receives Satan’s goods, when he comes back for his goods, he takes his goods and your life! Haven’t you seen enough? Look at the life of King Ahaz. Selah.
