We started with attitudes of children from Christian homes, alerting us to the danger of tearing the God given cover that God has provided through our obedience to our parents.
Our text leads us to what should be our default position, even when we consider our parents as not having done us right! Our heavenly Father’s heart is that we should share His character, by:
- instruction to obedience,
- Discipline, and
- love!
So, the pruning that makes us react and condemn our earthly parents is not punishment. Pruning is to bring forth more fruit (John 15:2; 1 Peter 3:14).
If we don’t trust our parents, shouldn’t we trust our heavenly Father, believe in His love, that He always has our good in His heart; even when it means taking away a blessing we have enjoyed or a cherished relationship! AS you shift your default position to the demands of our heavenly Father, know this, that He always has something better in mind. So, as the song writer wrote ‘judge not the Lord with feeble mind, but trust Him for His grace…God is His own interpreter and He will make it plain…Ye saints of God, fresh courage, take the clouds you so much dread will break with blessings on your head!’
Shalom.
