Why then is it important that we pray according to God’s will? Our text answers this all-important question, therein lies the assurance that you will get answers.
Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. James 4:3
And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. 1 John 5:14-15
Everything that we seek that is not expressly spelt out in the scriptures should be covered by “if it be Your will”. When we pray for something that we are not sure is in keeping with the mind of God, we ought to say, “Lord, I desire this or that only if it fits Your plan for me and if it fits Your timing.” We give honour to Him as the owner of our lives and that we only know in part (1 Corinthians 13:12).
Doing so is the evidence of faithfulness that Paul spoke to Timothy about in 2 Timothy 2:3-5 (TPT)—Overcome every form of evil as a victorious soldier of Jesus the Anointed One. For every soldier called to active duty must divorce himself from the distractions of this world so that he may fully satisfy the one who chose him. An athlete who doesn’t play by the rules will never receive the trophy, so remain faithful to God!
Beloved, faithfulness is basically playing by the rules. Is your prayer life and prayer content conforming to the rules set forth by the examples we have shared over these two weeks? Selah.
