His Message Our Witness (Part 3)

Finalising our admonition on our witness, I would take our text from Mark 14:32-34, the most illustrative description of the:

  • Journey to Gethsemane; and
  • Lesson of purpose and assignment taught to the disciples.

And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray. And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy; And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch. Mark 14:32-34

But those who were called to support the Lord God in this hour of travail, what we would call the higher purpose, failed woefully. They were totally UNPREPARED for the hour of evil. The Lord would later in John 21: 20, 21, to drive the critical lesson home, say, Face what you were called to do and stop wondering about what others whose calling may be different from yours are doing or not doing!

Too many of us feel short-changed that we are not in the lime light of preaching on stage or commanding large followership as prophets or apostles prophesying for man’s recognition and acceptance, and CHOOSE to neglect the general call in Matthew 28:19, 20. In so doing we take on the garb of the slothful servant that refused to put the talent given Him by the Master to work with. Idleness is a vice! Maybe use such “vice” for clarity. It is time to wake up and sound the alarm, be on the Lord’s side and proclaim the acceptable time to be reconciled to God. Shalom.
